The aim of this project was to turn the 1st and 2nd floor of the existing office building into an information centre. The centre was to host seminars and small events for the general public;to collect books and other materials; to promote international cultural exchange, and to make the Japan Foundation's activities and mission better known. We considered the location and the nature of the building itself (an atrium facing a downtown main street, light interior, dark exterior);the centre's planned activities;listened to the opinions of its possible users; and came up with a renovation plan that could maximise the result by using the existing buildings features.Three main objects (shelf, lantern, and desk) were introduced to the building, seeking to create a friendly and easily recognisable facility.
