LONG HAT

2014Complete

CAtKazuhiro Kojima

A cottage separated from the main house which is located at a traditional village near the boundary of Osaka and Nara prefecture.
Together with other cottages, the wooden house will be home to a family of 8.
Non-structural walls are lifted up from the foundation to reduce waste in usage of wall in conventional wooden construction, resulting natural light leaking from below the walls. Direct light from the opening blends with light rebounded on the pure white oor to create a bright space fading by time to time.
Floor at the place where people gather most is 40cm lowered to provide seats. Surroundings can be seen through the ground window when seated which creates a sense of being individual yet belonging to the neighborhood.
